Sær Illel is a strategic area of the Scéäduwë, but not because it is a port. (There is little need for a deepwater port in a land of extraordinarily limited sea trade. The only nearby deepwater port near Sær Illel is a ruined city ten miles to the south at the mouth of a river.)
Sær Illel was a jewel of the Celvarian court (as can be gleaned from the vaguely elvish architecture) becase it has a very shallow port. Salt dries in the tidal flats, and salt is worth its weight in gold, not silver.
The city does decent trade with Nelmachh and the Scéäduwë of its salt, but it could be a bonanza if it can trade with Koryn, Kur-Dingir and the other northern islands.
